Reading Response Guidelines:

use strategies that we have worked on throughout the unit, such as:
-character and how they are developed throughout the book
-what the character realizes or learns
What is the theme and how do characters connect to the theme?
Plot- how do events that happen later in the text connect to earlier ones? Something odd that sticks out related to the plot
How does the setting affect the events and the characters?
Develop ideas or theories about the character or the text with evidence to support them
Always generate questions you have about the text

Reading Unit 1: Interpretation Book Clubs
We began this unit by discussing the importance of setting reading goals this year to become stronger readers. We are working on plans to achieve these goals.
In addition, we talked about that we will not just be READING books, but we will be WORKING on our books. This means using the strategies we work on during mini-lessons while reading, and always thinking deeply about our books.
Soon we will be meeting in books clubs and focusing on theme.
Writing Unit 1: Narrative writing
We are beginning this unit by working on strategies for generating ideas. We will be writing wonderful personal narratives in the next few weeks!
